Yet I Will Rejoice
From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation. - Habakkuk 3:17-18 (NLT)
And here’s the devotional: Habakkuk gets it. He knows what it feels like to look around and see things falling apart. He asks the hard questions. He wonders why injustice seems to win. He watches pain unfold and does not hide how he feels about it. And God does not rebuke him for asking. Instead, He answers with vision. He reminds Habakkuk that though things may seem delayed, He is still in control.
And then we get to this moment. A moment where Habakkuk shifts. His circumstances have not changed, but his focus has. He says, even if everything falls apart, even if nothing looks like I hoped it would, yet I will rejoice.
That is powerful. That is what faith looks like when it grows deep roots. It is not pretending everything is fine. It is choosing to believe that God is still good even when life is not. It is remembering that our joy is not tied to what we see but to who God is.
Sometimes we want the storm to stop. Sometimes we just want answers. But what God offers is better. He offers Himself. He is our salvation. He is our strength. And when we lean into that truth, joy begins to rise again. Not because of what changed on the outside, but because of what is steady on the inside.
Reflection Question: Here’s a question for you today: Where in your life do you feel like things are falling apart? And how might shifting your focus from what’s missing to who God is help you find joy again?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being faithful, even when life feels uncertain or empty. Help me to choose joy, to trust Your heart, and to remember that You are my salvation, my strength, and my hope. Remind me that I can rejoice in You, no matter what I see around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
