Are You More Saved Than You Think?
How One Question From God Changed Everything
By Johnny Jones, Author of The Sozo Life and Founder of SozoRadio.org
Several years ago, I attended a Christian leadership conference in Oklahoma. As the conference wrapped up, I sat across from a friend at a local restaurant discussing ministry, life, and what I might preach when I returned home. In the middle of that conversation, a question suddenly came to my heart. It wasn't from my friend. It was from God. The question was simple: "Do you know how saved you really are?"
At first, the question seemed unnecessary. I had grown up in church, spent years studying Scripture, and was serving in ministry. Like many Christians, I would have confidently said that salvation meant forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and a home in Heaven. While all of that is true, I soon discovered there was much more to God’s salvation than I had ever understood.

That question sent me on a journey through Scripture that eventually became my book, The Sozo Life (available on Amazon). What I found was not a new doctrine, but a deeper understanding of a truth hidden in plain sight throughout the New Testament.
The Greek word translated as “saved” is the word sozo. As I began studying every occurrence of that word in the New Testament, I was astonished to discover that its meaning extends far beyond what many believers traditionally associate with salvation. The word carries the truth of being saved, healed, delivered, preserved, protected, made prosperous, and made whole. Suddenly, salvation was no longer simply about where I would spend eternity one day. It was about what Jesus accomplished through His finished work on the cross for every area of life.

What fascinated me most was how Jesus Himself used the word sozo interchangeably throughout His ministry.
One of the clearest examples is found in the story of the woman with the issue of blood. After suffering for twelve years and spending everything she had on physicians without improvement, she pressed through a crowd to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. When healing flowed into her body, Jesus said, “Daughter, your faith has made you whole.” The phrase “made you whole” is the Greek word sozo. Jesus could have simply said she was healed, but He chose a much bigger word because her need was much bigger than physical healing. She had suffered physically, emotionally, socially, and financially. Jesus didn’t just heal her body; He restored her life.
The same truth appears in the story of the ten lepers. All ten were healed as they obeyed Jesus and went to show themselves to the priests, yet only one returned to thank Him. To that grateful man Jesus said, “Arise, go your way; your faith has made you whole.” Once again, the word used was sozo. All ten experienced healing, but the one who returned received something deeper. Jesus spoke of a restoration that went beyond the physical.

We see it again with Blind Bartimaeus. Sitting beside the road outside Jericho, Bartimaeus cried out for mercy until Jesus stopped and called him forward. After restoring his sight, Jesus said, “Go your way; your faith has saved you.” The word translated “saved” is again sozo. Bartimaeus received his sight, yet Jesus described the miracle using the language of salvation.

These accounts reveal something powerful about the heart of God. Jesus never viewed people as a collection of disconnected needs. He saw the whole person. Where others saw sickness, He saw someone needing restoration. Where others saw blindness, He saw someone needing wholeness. Where others saw a sinner, He saw someone needing reconciliation with the Father.
Far too many believers have unknowingly reduced salvation to a future destination rather than a present reality. They know they are going to Heaven, but they struggle to believe God wants to heal broken hearts, restore relationships, provide wisdom, bring freedom from bondage, and reveal His goodness and healing in everyday life. Yet Jesus declared that He came so we might have life and have it more abundantly.

At the heart of this abundant life is the truth of righteousness. Through Christ, we have been made right with God. We do not earn His acceptance through perfect behavior, nor do we maintain His love through religious striving. The Gospel announces that Jesus has done for us what we could never do for ourselves. Because of His sacrifice, we stand accepted, forgiven, and loved by the Father.
This revelation changes everything. When we understand that we are righteous by faith, prayer becomes more confident, worship becomes more authentic, and faith grows stronger. We stop approaching God as beggars hoping to gain His approval and begin approaching Him as sons and daughters who have already received His love through Christ.

One of the greatest discoveries I made while writing The Sozo Life was realizing how many people carry a distorted image of God. Many see Him as distant, disappointed, or perpetually angry. Yet Jesus came to reveal the Father. Every healing, every miracle, and every act of compassion was a demonstration of God’s heart toward humanity. Jesus Himself said, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.”
When we begin to see God as He truly is, we become positioned to receive from Him in ways we never imagined possible. The Psalmist David understood this reality when he wrote, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” David wasn’t speaking from theory. He had experienced God’s protection, provision, forgiveness, preservation, and faithfulness. His testimony was simple: God is good.
That same invitation remains today. Don’t settle for a “so-so” Christian life when Jesus paid such a high price to provide so much more. Discover the fullness of salvation. Discover the Father’s heart. Discover the abundant life Jesus came to give. Discover the Sozo Life.

Our Story
Sozo Radio grew out of a long-standing mission to bring worship and God’s Word to as many people as possible. It all began in the fall of 2012 when Sozo Communications launched 98.3 The Bridge, providing Eastern North Carolina with a strong platform for Contemporary Christian Music (CCM). The station quickly became one of the most-listened-to in its three-county area and later expanded as My Bridge FM on 97.5 and 104.5 FM, hosting major Christian concert events along the way.

After 12 years of serving the community, we followed the Lord’s leading to become Sozo Radio, shifting our format to worship. In December 2024, we embraced an all-digital model, breaking free from the limitations of a 35-mile broadcast radius and creating a platform where listeners can easily “Worship Anywhere.”
Today, SOZO RADIO is available worldwide by signing up at SOZORADIO.org and download our mobile app, offering a daily companion for spiritual growth with worship music, devotionals, and podcasts that inspire, encourage, and connect people to God no matter where they are. Every feature, from tax-deductible subscriptions to an easy-to-use interface, was designed so listeners can focus on worship without distractions.
The Meaning Behind SOZO
SOZO is the Greek, word for "Saved" meaning to save, to heal, to deliver and make whole. David tells us in Psalm 16:11, that we experience joy and fullness in His presence.
