Within Your Reach

“When they came to the edge of the Jordan, Elisha said to Gehazi, ‘Take the ax head out.’ So the man reached in and grabbed it.” 2 Kings 6:7 (NLT)

Have you ever felt like something essential to your life has sunk out of sight? Like you lost your edge, your purpose, or even your hope? In this brief but powerful story from 2 Kings, a borrowed ax head falls into the Jordan River. It seems like a small moment, but what happens next shows us the heart of God. Elisha doesn’t tell the man to move on or figure it out himself. Instead, he asks where it fell, throws a stick into the water, and the iron floats. Something impossible happens, not because of human strength, but because God stepped in.

This isn’t just about an ax head. It’s a picture of how God is concerned about what matters to us. Even the things we think are too small or too far gone. Whether it's joy, peace, passion, or calling, God is able to restore what feels lost. He doesn’t ignore our cry. He leans in, asks us where it fell, and invites us to participate in the miracle.

What’s even more amazing is that the man had to reach out and take it. God brought it back within reach, but the man had to believe enough to grab hold.

Maybe you’re in a season where something you once held onto has slipped away. God sees you. He knows exactly where it fell. And He’s not only able to bring it back, He wants to. Just reach out and grab it!

Reflection Question: What is something in your life that feels lost or unreachable—but you sense God asking you to believe He can restore?

Prayer: Father, thank You that nothing is too small or too lost for You to redeem. Thank You for caring about what weighs on my heart. I ask You to show me where I lost my edge and help me reach out in faith to take hold of what You restore. I believe You still do the impossible. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
