What Worship Can Do

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah. - 1 Samuel 16:13 (NLT)

Some of the most meaningful moments with God can happen in quiet, hidden places. For David, those moments happened out in the fields. While others may have overlooked him, God saw his heart and met him right there, in the middle of his everyday, ordinary life.

David didn’t spend those long hours with the sheep in boredom or bitterness. Instead, he filled the space with worship. He sang. He played his harp. He poured out his heart to the Lord, and it wasn’t for show, it was for relationship. That simple, honest worship became a foundation for the incredible life God was calling him to.

When Samuel anointed David as the future king, it wasn’t because of how strong or impressive he looked. It was because of what God saw inside him. David was a man who pursued God’s heart. And that pursuit through worship changed everything.

It didn’t crown David overnight, but it did mark him. Scripture says the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him from that day forward. That’s what worship can do. It prepares us, transforms us, and draws God’s presence close. It shifts the atmosphere of our hearts, and in turn, our lives.

Today, take a moment, whether in the car, on a walk, or in a quiet room, and lift up your heart in worship. God is drawn to those moments, and He meets us right in the middle of them.

Reflection Question: What would it look like today for you to create a space for worship in your everyday routine?

Prayer: Father, thank You that You meet me in the simple, quiet moments. Help me to pursue Your heart through worship, not for what I can get, but for who You are. Fill those spaces with Your presence and shape my heart to look more like Yours. In Jesus nName, Amen.
