Trust The Cast
From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. - 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)
I’ll be the first to admit—I’m not a professional fisherman. Most of the time, I stick to what I know. Give me a quiet shoreline, a cork or a simple bottom rig, and I’m good to go. I’m not out there trying to catch trophies. I just love the calm it brings. There’s something healing about being near the water with a line out and the breeze brushing your face.
Not long ago, I was enjoying one of those peaceful afternoons on the coast of Eastern North Carolina. But I kept missing my target with every cast, and I was getting a little annoyed with myself. In that quiet moment, I sensed the Lord whisper something so simple, yet so powerful: “Stop doubting your cast.”
It landed deep in my heart. I knew He wasn’t just talking about fishing. He was gently showing me something about faith. About trust. About the way I handle anxiety. Because if I’m honest, there have been plenty of times when I’ve prayed, asked God for help, laid something at His feet, and then turned right around and picked it up again with worry.
But that day, standing there with a fishing rod in my hand, I heard Him reminding me that when I cast something onto Him, I can leave it there. I don’t have to reel it back in with fear or doubt. He is big enough to handle it, and loving enough to care deeply about it.
So I left that cast alone. And before long…I had a bite.
Reflection Question: What care or concern have you been reeling back in that God is asking you to release, and leave, with Him?
Prayer: Father, thank You that You care deeply about every detail of our lives. Teach us to trust You more fully. Help us cast our worries onto You, and actually leave them there. Give us rest while we wait, knowing You are already working. In Jesus’ name, amen.
