Our Strong Tower

“The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.” — Proverbs 18:10 (NLT)

We all have childhood stories of fear, shadows on the wall, noises in the night, monsters under the bed. I remember dashing from my dark bedroom straight to my dad’s leg, holding on tightly like it was the safest place in the world. And honestly, in that moment, it was. I knew as long as I was with him, nothing could touch me.

That simple, childlike trust is exactly what this verse in Proverbs invites us back to. The name of the Lord isn’t just a phrase we whisper in prayer. It is a strong fortress, a place of real refuge. When life feels heavy, uncertain, or even frightening, we don’t have to muscle through or pretend we’re fine. We have a place to run, and His name is Jesus.

Throughout the Bible, God revealed different names to reflect His nature and His care for us. He is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. He is Jehovah Shalom, our Peace. He is Jehovah Rapha, our Healer. But now, all of those names and more are fulfilled in one powerful name: Jesus. Everything we could ever need is wrapped up in Him.

You don’t have to clean yourself up to come running. You don’t have to explain why you're afraid or exhausted or unsure. You just run. And in Him, you’re safe. Safe from shame, safe from fear, safe from the lies that try to define you.

His name is not only your rescue, it’s your rest.

Reflection Question: Where might you need to run to Jesus’ strong tower today and find safety?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your name is my strong tower. When I’m afraid or weary, help me to run to You without hesitation. Be my refuge and rest. Surround me with Your peace and protection today and always. In Your mighty name, Amen.
