This Much
Todayâs key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16 (NLT)
One of my favorite memories from when my kids were little is asking them, âDo you love me?â Theyâd smile big and say, âYes!â And then Iâd ask, âWell, how much do you love me?â Without missing a beat, theyâd stretch their arms out as wide as they could and proudly say, âThis much!â It still makes me smile just thinking about it.
Now imagine asking God that same question: âHow much do You love me?â Without a word, Heâd simply point to the cross, where Jesus stretched out His arms and gave His life for you.
John 3:16 is more than just a verse we memorize in Sunday school. Itâs the heartbeat of the Gospel. This is how much God loves you, not with just words, but with action. He gave. He sacrificed. He sent His only Son so you could have eternal life. And verse 17 makes it even clearer: Jesus didnât come to condemn you; He came to save you.
Thatâs grace. Pure and simple. Not something you earn. Not something you have to work for. Just something you receive.
So today, if you're feeling unworthy, tired, or unsure if you measure up, pause and remember: Jesus stretched out His arms for you. Thatâs how much He loves you. Right now. As you are.
Reflection Question: Have you been trying to earn Godâs love instead of simply receiving it? If so, what would it look like to rest in His grace today?
Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me this much. Thank You for sending Jesusânot to condemn me, but to save me. Help me to stop striving and start resting in what Youâve already done. Teach me to live each day secure in Your love, not my performance. I receive Your grace today. In Jesus Name, Amen.
