The True Power
Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere, in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. - Acts 1:8 (NLT)
Here’s the devotional: Think about how much we rely on electricity every day, lights, coffee makers, A/C in the summer, phone chargers that keep us connected. But all of it is useless if we’re not plugged in. We can have the best appliances, the latest gadgets, and all the potential in the world... but without power, nothing works.
That’s exactly what Jesus was getting at when He told His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit. He had already given them their mission, but He made it clear: “Don’t even try to do this without power.”
The Holy Spirit isn’t a spiritual extra for the super-religious. He is the very presence of God in us, the power to live, love, and walk in the freedom Jesus died to give us. He helps us understand truth, gives us boldness when we’re weak, reminds us who we are, and produces fruit in our lives that we could never grow on our own.
Without Him, we burn out. We get stuck. We try to “do the Christian life” in our own strength and end up exhausted or discouraged. But the good news is, God never intended for us to do this alone. That’s why the Spirit was given. Not just once, but again and again. Daily. Moment by moment. Fresh grace. Fresh power.
Just like you can’t run today on yesterday’s phone charge, you can’t run today on yesterday’s filling. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit is always ready to fill us again.
Reflection Question: Is there an area in your life you feel like you’ve been trying to live on empty? If so, what would it look like to plug back into your true Power Source today?
Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Fill me afresh today. I don’t want to live on yesterday’s power, I want to walk with You in every moment. Be my strength, my guide, and my power. In Jesus Name, Amen.
