The Promise of Righteousness
For the promise to Abraham and his descendants that he would inherit the world was not through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. â Romans 4:13 (NLT)
Have you ever paused to think about how Godâs promises work in your life? Sometimes, it can feel like promises are just distant hopes, especially when life gets hard or when weâre waiting for something to happen. But in Romans 4, Paul helps us understand that Godâs promises arenât dependent on our performance or our ability to follow the law. Instead, they are based on faith, the kind of faith that Abraham demonstrated.
When God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many nations, that promise wasnât about Abrahamâs perfection. It was about his trust in God and his willingness to believe what God said would come to pass. The same is true for us today. Through faith, we receive God's righteousness, and it is this righteousness that gives us the confidence to stand firm in the hope of Godâs glory.
In a world that constantly encourages us to prove ourselves, itâs easy to forget that Godâs love and promises arenât something we can earn. They are gifts freely given to us through Jesus Christ.
Paul reminds us in Romans 5:1-5 that because of our faith, we have peace with God. We can rejoice in the hope of His glory and trust that even in difficult times, His love is being poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
Reflection Question: How can you shift your focus today from striving for righteousness to simply receiving Godâs grace?
Prayer: Father, thank You for the incredible gift of righteousness through faith. Help me to fully embrace Your grace, knowing that I donât have to earn Your love or promises. Thank You for the peace that comes through trusting in You. May I continue to grow in my faith, resting in Your abundant love. In Jesus name, Amen.
