The Promise
From Todayâs One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
And the time of the Lordâs favor has come. - Luke 4:19 (NLT)
There are moments in life when God gently reminds us of His promises. One of those moments comes when a rainbow appears after a storm. As the sun breaks through the clouds, painting the sky with color, weâre reminded of Godâs covenant with the earth, His promise that He would never again destroy it by flood (Genesis 9:13). Itâs a sign of mercy, hope, and divine faithfulness.
But there's another symbol of Godâs promise, one far more personal: the bread and wine of communion. While the rainbow speaks to God's promise to creation, communion speaks directly to God's promise to you. It is the seal of the New Covenant, made not with water, but with the blood of Jesus.
When Jesus shared that final meal with His disciples, He lifted the bread and the cup and declared, âThis is the sign of the New Covenant.â Through His sacrifice, He bore all the wrath of God so that we wouldnât have to. That cup represents more than forgiveness, it testifies to the fullness of salvation. The Greek word sozo means to be saved, healed, delivered, and made whole, nothing missing, nothing broken.
When Jesus stood in the synagogue and read from Isaiah, He boldly proclaimed, âThe time of the Lordâs favor has come.âThat favor is not just a moment, itâs a living reality for all who trust in Him. It means you are accepted, loved, and covered by grace. It means that judgment passed over you because it fell on Him.
So today, when you see a rainbow or when you hold the bread and the cup, pause and remember: God keeps His promises. His favor rests on you because of Jesus.
Reflection Question: What promise of God are you holding onto today?
Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the powerful signs of Your promises. Help me to live each day aware of Your favor, resting in the finished work of Jesus and walking in the fullness of all Youâve provided. In Jesus' Name Amen.
