The Power of Gratitude
Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. - Psalm 116:1 (NLT)
There’s something truly powerful about a heart of gratitude. When we take time to reflect on all the ways God has been good to us, it changes our perspective. In Psalm 116, the psalmist begins with a declaration of love for the Lord—why? Because God listens. He hears the cries of His people, responds to their prayers, and shows them mercy. This is the foundation of gratitude, a deep recognition that God is not distant or unengaged, but actively involved in our lives.
In John 10:22-42, Jesus is speaking with the Jewish leaders, reminding them of the miracles He’s performed and the truth He’s spoken. But despite all the signs, many refuse to believe. It's easy to get caught up in wanting more proof or better circumstances, but here’s the thing: gratitude begins with trust in God’s faithfulness, not just what we can see. Jesus isn’t just asking us to believe in Him because of what He can do; He’s inviting us into relationship, where trust and gratitude grow deeper.
David, in 1 Samuel 24, demonstrates this principle. Even though he was hunted by Saul, David chose to show mercy when he had the opportunity to take revenge. His heart was focused on God’s will, and he chose to be thankful for God's protection rather than focusing on his difficult circumstances.
So today, let's choose gratitude. In every circumstance, no matter how big or small, we can recognize God's presence and care. Just like the psalmist, we can say, “I love the Lord because He hears me!”
Reflection Question: What are some specific ways you can express gratitude to God today for how He’s been present in your life?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for hearing our prayers and being faithful even when we don’t always see it. Open our eyes to recognize Your goodness in every season. Help us live with grateful hearts, remembering Your mercy, Your presence, and Your love. Teach us to trust You more deeply each day. In Jesus Name, Amen.
