The No Work Zone

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Jesus told them, ‘This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.’ - John 6:29 (NLT)

Have you ever felt like you’re running on a treadmill at work, or even in life? You’re putting in the hours, doing your best, but you can’t shake the feeling that something’s still missing? It’s no surprise, really. A global poll found that 85% of people don’t feel engaged at work. That means most of us are either bored, stressed, or just feeling stuck. So, we push ourselves harder, thinking more work will eventually fix things.

But here’s the thing: Jesus didn’t tell us to keep working harder to earn His love. In John 6, some people came to Jesus asking, “What should we do to please God?” They expected a whole list of things they had to do. But Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent” (John 6:29).

What a relief! Jesus made it clear that the work to earn God’s love is already done. It’s not about performing or following a bunch of rules. It’s about believing in Jesus and trusting that He did the work on our behalf. He even said, “It is finished” on the cross, meaning, the striving, the effort to earn God’s favor, is over.

Think of it like a “No Wake Zone” on the water. When you enter one of those zones, you have to slow down and stop making waves. In a way, Jesus is inviting us into our own “No Work Zone,” where we stop trying to hustle for approval and just enjoy His grace and love.

Reflection Question: If you feel the pressure to perform or prove yourself, how can you remind yourself that Jesus already did the work for you?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for doing all the work to make me right with God. Help me to rest in the truth that I don’t have to strive to earn Your love or approval. Teach me to simply believe and trust in You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
