The Great Provider
Todayâs key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, âWhere can we buy bread to feed all these people?â He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. - John 6:5-6 (NLT)
Have you ever found yourself in a situation that feels way too big for you to handle? Maybe youâve been facing a challenge or need that seems impossible to meet. Thatâs exactly what the disciples were feeling in John 6 when a huge crowd showed up and they didnât have enough food to feed them. It was a major dilemma. And hereâs the thing, Jesus already knew what He was going to do. He wasnât caught off guard. But He asked His disciples, âWhere can we buy bread to feed all these people?â It was a test to show them that their resources were limited, but His power was limitless.
They didnât have a solution, but Jesus had one. He took a small lunch from a boy, a few loaves of bread and fish, and turned it into more than enough to feed thousands. Not only did everyone eat, but there were leftovers! What a reminder that God is always able to do more than we could ever imagine.
The people of Israel in Psalm 106:13-31 struggled with the same thing. Theyâd seen God do amazing things, yet when challenges came, they quickly forgot His faithfulness. Itâs easy to fall into that trap, isnât it? We can forget what God has done for us in the past when weâre facing a new struggle. But the good news is, just as He provided for the Israelites and multiplied the loaves and fish, He is more than able to provide for us. Today, take the limits off and see what God can do!
Reflection Question: When youâre feeling overwhelmed, how can you remind yourself of how God has come through for you in the past and trust that Heâll take care of you now?
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for always being faithful. I trust that You have the power to provide for me, no matter how big my struggles seem. Help me to remember Your past faithfulness and rest in Your provision. In Jesus Name, Amen.
