The God Who Dwells With Us

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. - Exodus 25:8 (NLT)

From the very beginning, God has desired to dwell with His people, not as a distant deity, but as a near and present Father. In Exodus 23–25, we see God's detailed instructions for worship, feasts, and the building of the Tabernacle. Each command was intentional and sacred, not merely as a ritual but as an invitation: “Build me a sanctuary so I can live among them.”

This is not the call of a God looking for performance but of a Father longing for presence. These chapters are filled with laws, rituals, and reverence, but through it all we see God's heart, He wants to be close.

Even more powerful is the grace in how He makes that closeness possible. In Exodus, the people bring offerings as their hearts are moved. There is no compulsion, just the voluntary response of worship from those who understand what God has done. He rescued them from slavery, and now He’s leading them into promise and presence.

The same God who led Israel by cloud and fire now dwells in us through His Spirit.

Through Jesus, the final sacrifice, we are no longer under the weight of ceremonial law, but the beauty of relationship remains. He still calls us to bring our best, not to earn His love, but to respond to it.

As Scripture reminds us, Christ will return, and we are to live in watchfulness. But our waiting is not passive, it’s active worship, continual offering, and faithful obedience. We don’t build a Tabernacle anymore, but we are the Tabernacle now, vessels of His presence, made holy by grace.

Reflection Question: How can you make space in your heart and life today for God to dwell more fully?

Prayer: Father, thank You for desiring to dwell with me. Help me live daily aware of Your presence and ready to respond to Your call with joyful obedience. Thank You for making me a temple of Your Spirit through Jesus. In Jesus Name, Amen.
