The Family

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

The cloud of the Lord hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys. - Exodus 40:38 (NLT)

There’s something deeply comforting about gathering with family around a table, sharing stories and laughter over a warm meal. It reflects something sacred, something God Himself designed from the very beginning. His desire wasn’t just to create a people, but a family, one He could love, protect, and walk with throughout every journey of life.

When God led the Israelites through the wilderness, His presence was visibly with them. By day, a cloud hovered over the Tabernacle; by night, it glowed with fire. This wasn’t just for direction, it was a demonstration of God’s nearness and His watchful care over His people. Even though sin created distance, God made a way through the Tabernacle to dwell among them.

That same desire for closeness reached its fulfillment in Jesus. No longer would God simply dwell near His people, through Christ and the Holy Spirit, He would dwell within them. His plan all along was to bring us into the kind of relationship only family can describe: one of intimacy, joy, and daily communion.

We see this beautifully in Acts 12, where the early church, God’s new family, gathered in a home to pray for Peter’s release from prison. God answered powerfully. Their prayers weren’t just heard; they were felt, seen, and celebrated. This is what life in God’s family looks like, shared faith, shared burdens, and shared joy in God’s faithfulness.

Today, know this: if you belong to Jesus, you are part of His family. He delights in being with you, walking with you, and revealing His goodness in your life.

Reflection Question: How can you intentionally enjoy and lean into your relationship with God as a loving Father this week?

Prayer: Father, Thank You for making me part of Your family. Help me to recognize Your presence and rest in the security of Your love. Teach me to cherish our fellowship and walk closely with You each day. In Jesus name, Amen.
