The Distinction

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. - Hebrews 10:10 (NLT)

U.S. Marines pride themselves in being the most elite fighting force in the world, symbolized by their emblem, the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. It’s not just a logo or pin. For a Marine, it represents identity, commitment, and a shared story. You don’t just wear it, you earn it. It marks you. And as they say, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

In the same way, God marks His children with something far more eternal than a symbol or uniform. He marks us by the blood of His Son. Hebrews reminds us that we are made holy not by what we do, but by what Jesus did. Once. For all time.

In Exodus 11, God spoke through Moses about the final plague that would come over Egypt. The line was clear. There would be loss in every Egyptian household. But God made a promise to His people, He said not even a dog would bark against them. Why? Because there would be a clear and divine distinction.

That distinction wasn’t based on their strength, behavior, or family background. It was based solely on the blood. God gave instructions to sacrifice a spotless lamb and apply its blood to their doorposts. When the angel of death passed by, any home covered in blood would be untouched.

Fast forward to the cross. Jesus became the once-for-all Lamb. His sacrifice didn’t just cover a door, it covered our hearts, our failures, and our lives.

This is why we stand secure. Not because we are always good, but because He is always faithful. The distinction between saved and lost is not performance, it is the blood.

Reflection Question: Have you truly rested in the power of the blood of Jesus to mark your life as His own?

Prayer: Father, thank You for the blood of Jesus that makes us clean and sets us apart. Help us remember today that we are not saved by our goodness but by Your grace. Let us live boldly and humbly in that truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
