Taste and See

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! - Psalm 34:8 (NLT)

David had reached a breaking point. All illusions were gone, Saul wanted him dead. No longer could he excuse Saul’s actions as mere bursts of anger or temporary madness. Jonathan’s confirmation shattered any lingering hope that peace could be made. Betrayed, hunted, and confused, David ran, not just for his life, but into the presence of God.

In his desperation, David fled to Nob to see the priest Ahimelech, asking for two simple things: a weapon and food. What he received, however, was anything but ordinary. The sword of Goliath reminded David of a victory God had already secured. That same God had not changed. If He had delivered once, He could and would deliver again.

Then came the bread, the Shewbread, the Bread of Presence, normally reserved for priests. It was sacred, a symbol that God was continually present in the Holy Place. That day, the bread became more than nourishment; it became a message. David, though on the run and full of questions, was not alone. God was with him.

Centuries later, Jesus would take bread and offer it to His disciples, saying, “This is my body, given for you.” In doing so, He invited us into something even greater: not just God with us, but God in us. Jesus, the Bread of Life, now dwells within every believer, sustaining us through every trial.

Whatever road you’re walking today, uncertainty, fear, betrayal, remember the Bread. Jesus is still enough. Taste and see His goodness, even in the wilderness.

Reflection Question: In what area of your life do you need to be reminded that God is present and fighting for you?

Prayer: Lord, Thank You for being my refuge and strength. Remind me of Your faithfulness in the past and let it fuel my faith for today. Help me to taste and see Your goodness in every season, and trust that You are with me and for me. In Jesus name, Amen.
