Speaking Life

The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” — Proverbs 18:21 (NLT)

Our words hold incredible power. In Acts 26, Paul stands before King Agrippa, a powerful figure in the Roman empire. He’s been arrested, tried, and rejected, but none of that stops him from speaking boldly about his faith in Jesus. Paul’s words weren’t just a defense of himself, they were a declaration of the truth of God’s love, grace, and power. Even in a courtroom, with his future uncertain, Paul used his voice to share the message that had transformed his life.

We, too, have the choice to speak life into our situations, our relationships, and our world. Every day, we have an opportunity to use our words for good. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that our words have the power to build up or tear down. We can speak encouragement, hope, and truth, or we can let our words carry negativity and despair.

Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the circumstances and speak from frustration or fear. But just like Paul, we are called to speak words of life that point others to the hope we have in Christ. Our words can shape the atmosphere around us, they can bring healing to broken hearts, and they can offer encouragement to those who need it most.

As we go about our day, let’s remember that our words are not just for the moment, they have eternal value. When we speak life, we partner with God in His work of restoration and redemption.

Reflection Question: How can you use your words today to bring life to someone or to a situation that needs encouragement or healing?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the power of words. Help me to use my speech to honor You and to speak life, hope, and encouragement into every situation. May my words bring glory to Your name and healing to those who hear them. In Jesus name, amen.
