Six Scoops
Todayâs key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
Then Boaz said to her, âBring your cloak and spread it out.â He measured six scoops of barley into the cloak and placed it on her back. Then he returned to the town. - Ruth 3:15 (NLT)
Sometime ago, a picture posted on Reddit showing a bowl Kelloggâs famous Raisin Bran cereal with only a sparse supply of raisins, causing an uproar among some cereal lovers. In response, BusinessInsider.com set out to investigate, leaving those same cereal lovers feeling a lot better. What they discovered was that when compared to the raisin to cereal ratio, there was certainly enough raisins to satisfy most taste buds and give consumers their moneyâs worth.
Reading Ruth 3 reminded me of that story, but with a much more meaningful twist. Ruth had no reason to expect anything from Boaz. She came in humility, simply hoping he would accept her and redeem her. And Boaz not only said yes, he gave her more. Six heaping scoops of barley, enough for her to carry home, like a visible promise that he would take care of her.
Boaz is a beautiful picture of Jesus, our Kinsman Redeemer. We, like Ruth, come to Him with nothing but hope, and He meets us with abundance. Yes, He saves us. Yes, He redeems us. But He also loads us up with âextra scoopsâ, the full blessing of salvation, or Sozo in the Greek. That includes healing, deliverance, provision, protection, wholeness, and more.
Jesus doesnât just forgive you, He fills you. He doesnât just give you a future, He blesses your present. Whatever need youâre carrying today, know that your Redeemer isnât stingy. He gives graciously, fully, and abundantly.
Reflection Question: Is there an âextra scoopâ of Godâs grace do you need to receive by faith today, healing, peace, provision, or something else?
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being my Redeemer. You didnât just save me, you gave me a full, abundant life. Today I open my heart to receive all that You have provided, every scoop of grace and blessing. I receive it by faith. In Jesus Name, Amen.
