Simply Ask

“But for us, there is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live, and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live.” - 1 Corinthians 8:6 (NLT)

Have you ever hesitated to ask God for something, wondering if it’s important enough or if He even wants to give it to you? In the book of Joshua, we see powerful examples of how simply asking opens the door to blessings. Othniel asks Caleb for land with springs of water, and Caleb gives him even more. Zelophehad’s daughters ask for land even though the rule was that men inherit, and Joshua grants their request. Later, the descendants of Joseph ask for more land because they had grown so numerous, and Joshua tells them to take as much as they want.

The lesson is clear: sometimes, all it takes is to ask. James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask.” So why do we hesitate? Maybe it’s because we don’t see God as the generous Father He truly is. But Jesus paints a different picture in the story of the Prodigal Son, where a father welcomes his son home with open arms. God is eager to bless us.

Today, remember that God loves to say yes. Whether the answer is yes or no, it always comes from His loving and wise heart. So simply ask.

Reflection Question: What have you been hesitant to ask God for, and how can you approach Him with trust and confidence today?

Prayer: Father, thank You for being a loving and generous God. Help me to remember that You delight in blessing me and that I can always come to You with my needs and desires. Give me the courage to ask and trust in Your good answers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
