Simply Ask

Have you ever hesitated to ask God for something, thinking that maybe He wouldn’t want to give it to you or that it wasn’t important enough? In the book of Joshua, there are a few powerful moments that show us how simple asking can open the door to blessings.

Othniel asks Caleb for land with springs of water, and Caleb, rather than just giving him what he asked for, gives him even more. In Joshua 17, Zelophehad’s daughters ask for land since their family had no sons, and even though the rule was for men to inherit land, they didn’t let that stop them. Joshua grants them their request. Then, in the very next chapter, the descendants of Joseph ask for more land because they had grown so numerous, and Joshua doesn’t hesitate to tell them to take as much as they want.

The lesson here is simple: sometimes, all it takes is to ask. James 4:2 tells us, “You do not have because you do not ask.” So why don’t we ask more often? Maybe we hesitate because we’re unsure how God sees us. If we picture God as a grumpy, distant figure, it’s easy to think He won’t want to bless us. But that’s not the God we serve. Jesus paints a completely different picture in the story of the Prodigal Son, where the father lovingly welcomes his son home with open arms. God is not stingy or unwilling to give; He is generous and eager to bless us.

Today, let’s remember that we serve a God who loves to say yes. Whether the answer is yes or no, we can trust that it comes from His heart of love and wisdom.

So, simply ask.

Prayer: Father, thank You for being a loving and generous God. Help me to remember that You delight in blessing me and that I can always come to You with my needs and desires. Give me the courage to ask and trust in Your good answers. In Jesus Name, Amen.
