Set Your Heart on What Matters
Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. - Colossians 3:1 (NLT)
Isnât it easy to get caught up in the here and now? The daily grind, the stresses of life, the constant pull of distractions. But in Colossians 3, Paul gives us such a simple yet powerful reminder: set your heart on the things above, where Christ is. When we focus on what truly matters, on the eternal truths that Godâs love and grace provide, we can find peace, even in the chaos.
Itâs not just about thinking âspiritual thoughtsâ when things get hard. Itâs about realigning your life with the truth of who you are in Christ. Because weâve been raised with Him, our hearts are meant to reflect Him. So, instead of carrying around anger, resentment, or jealousy, weâre called to wear patience, kindness, and love. Weâre to forgive, just as He has forgiven us. When we do this, we create a life marked by peace and unity.
Psalm 78Â also reminds us of Godâs faithfulness. Even when His people made mistake after mistake, God remained committed to them. He never left them. In the same way, we can trust that no matter how often we get distracted or wander, God is always there, pulling us back to Himself.
So today, letâs shift our hearts. Letâs focus on Christ and what He has already done for us. When we do, weâll see things differently, and weâll be empowered to live a life that reflects His love and grace.
Reflection Question: Whatâs one area of your life where you can refocus and set your heart more on Christ today?
Prayer: God, thank You for the reminder that my life is hidden in You. Help me to focus on the things that truly matter. Teach me to let go of distractions and to clothe myself in love, patience, and kindness. Let Your peace rule in my heart. In Jesus name, Amen.
