Set Apart
Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth. - Exodus 33:15 (NLT)
There is something unmistakable about the presence of God, it marks us. It distinguishes us. And no outward appearance or religious behavior can replicate or replace it.
Years ago on a missions trip, I stepped onto the streets of India and witnessed firsthand the darkness of a place where the presence of the Lord was very small. But then something remarkable happened. I met a group of Indian believers who had come to pick us up from the airport. Without a word spoken or a sign held up, it was obvious, they carried something different. Their faces radiated light. It was the presence of God. They were set apart, not by appearance or language, but by the glow of God’s Spirit upon them.
This is what Moses was talking about in Exodus 33. He knew that without God's presence, Israel was just another nation, no different than the rest. But with His presence, they became a holy people, marked by God Himself. It’s not our rituals or traditions that distinguish us, it’s Him. His Spirit, His peace, His joy, His love shining through us is what truly sets us apart in a dark world.
This is a daily invitation: to seek His presence not just for what He can give, but for who He is. As we draw near, His goodness reflects on us and becomes visible to those around us.
Reflection Question: What steps can you take today to intentionally dwell in God’s presence so that His light can shine through you?
Prayer: Lord, Thank You that Your presence is what truly sets me apart. I don’t want to just go through the motions, I want to walk daily in the light of Your presence. Help me to reflect Your goodness to the world around me, that others may see You in me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
