Re-Called

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Then Jesus told him, 'Follow me.' - John 21:19 (NLT)

There’s something incredibly personal about those two words: Follow Me. For Peter, they were the words that started everything.

When Peter first heard Jesus say, “Follow Me,” he was just a fisherman, working the night shift, hauling empty nets, and probably thinking about the same routine tomorrow. But that day, everything changed. Jesus stepped into Peter’s boat, and then, into his life. After a miraculous catch of fish, Peter realized he was in the presence of someone completely different. And when Jesus called him to follow, Peter dropped everything and went.

Fast-forward three and a half years, and Peter is no longer just the bold disciple—he’s the one who denied even knowing Jesus. Not once, but three times. Can you imagine the weight of that shame? Peter had walked on water, watched miracles, and confessed Jesus as the Christ... and still failed Him in His darkest hour.

So what does Jesus do after the resurrection? He cooks Peter breakfast on the beach.

He doesn’t scold him. He doesn’t remind him of his failure. He simply restores him, asking three times if Peter loves Him, gently unraveling the knots of guilt, and then says those familiar words again: “Follow Me.”

Jesus didn’t change His mind about Peter because of Peter’s mistake. He re-called him. Grace does that. It reaches into our lowest moments and says, “You’re still Mine. My plan for you hasn’t changed.”

If you’ve ever felt like you blew it too badly to still be used by God, let Peter’s story remind you: Jesus still wants you. He’s not done with you. And He’s still calling.

Reflection Question: What is Jesus calling you back into today that shame or failure tried to talk you out of?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for coming back for me. Thank You for Your grace that doesn’t give up when I fall short. I receive Your forgiveness and choose to follow You again today, fully loved, fully called. In Jesus Name, Amen.
