Ponder
From Todayâs One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. - Luke 2:19 (NLT)
Mary had just given birth to the Savior of the world. Shepherds arrived with stories of angelic announcements, glorifying God for what they had seen and heard. It was a whirlwind of divine encounters, yet in the middle of it all, Mary didnât speak much. She treasured these things. She pondered them.
To treasure means to hold something dear, to value it deeply. Mary didnât rush past these sacred moments. She allowed them to settle in her spirit. But she didnât just hold them, she pondered them. The Greek word here carries the idea of putting pieces together, much like assembling a puzzle. Mary was slowly connecting the divine dots, forming a clearer picture of what God was doing through her and in the world.
Life can feel like a scattered collection of moments, some confusing, others miraculous, and many seemingly ordinary. But when we, like Mary, take time to treasure and ponder, we begin to see how God is weaving a beautiful, purposeful narrative. What once seemed random begins to reveal His plan.
As you reflect on your own journey, especially at the threshold of a new year, consider the things God has done in your life. Treasure them. Ponder them. Donât overlook the quiet moments or dismiss the unexpected ones. These could be the very building blocks of the story God is unfolding in and through you.
When we slow down to reflect, God often gives us fresh understanding and renewed faith. Like Mary, we may begin to see that God has been working all along, faithfully, purposefully, and lovingly.
Reflection Question: What are some moments from this past year that you need to treasure and ponder today?
Prayer: Lord, help me to treasure the moments where I see Your hand at work. Teach me to ponder them with a heart of faith, trusting that You are putting all the pieces together for Your glory and my good. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
