Only The Best

But Moses gave no allotment of land to the tribe of Levi, for the Lord, the God of Israel, had promised that he himself would be their allotment. - Joshua 13:33 (NLT)

It was finally time! After years of wandering in the wilderness and fighting battles to take the Promised Land, the people of Israel were getting their inheritance. Imagine the buzz around camp, families gathering, waiting to hear where they’d settle, what cities and land would be theirs. It was like the ultimate real estate day!

But then came the Levites. And when it was their turn? No land. No cities. No property lines to measure. Instead, they were told, “God Himself is your portion.”

At first, that might sound like they got shortchanged. Everyone else is getting land flowing with milk and honey, and the Levites… get God? But really, they got the best deal of all.

While everyone else would farm, build, and protect their land, the Levites were invited to live in direct service to God. He would be their source, their provider, their everything.

And here’s where it gets real for us, you and I are part of that same spiritual legacy. In 1 Peter 2:5, we’re called a “royal priesthood.” That means our inheritance isn’t just about stuff, it’s about relationship. God’s not just giving us blessings; He’s giving us Himself.

We spend so much time chasing things we think we need, security, success, approval. But when we really understand that the God of the universe calls us His own and promises to be our provider and portion, it changes everything.

We’re not missing out. We’ve already been given the very best.

Reflection Question: Is there an area in your life where you’ve been looking for fulfillment in things, rather than in God Himself?

Prayer: Lord, thank You that You don’t just give me good things, you give me You. Help me to rest in that truth today. Teach me to see You as my portion, my provider, and my prize. I trust You to be enough. In Jesus Name, Amen.
