Only Ask

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. - James 1:5 (NLT)

It’s amazing how early that independent streak shows up in us. I remember when our youngest was about ten months old and suddenly decided he didn’t want to be fed anymore. He only wanted to eat what he could pick up himself. With just two tiny bottom teeth, he was determined to do it on his own. It was adorable but also challenging. And honestly, it reminded me how much that same spirit stays with us as adults.

There is something in us that wants to figure things out ourselves. We want to be strong. We want to be capable. We want to handle life without needing too much help. But if we’re honest, that mindset sometimes keeps us from receiving what our Father is so ready to give.

James tells us clearly that if we need wisdom all we have to do is ask. Not perform. Not prove ourselves. Just ask. God is generous and kind and never frustrated by our questions. He’s not annoyed when we admit we need help. In fact, He loves when we come close and lean in.

David understood this too. In Psalm 86 he wrote about God being full of unfailing love for all who ask for help. David had made plenty of mistakes, but he had learned something powerful: God never turned him away. Every time he asked, God met him with mercy and direction.

That is true for us too. Whether you need wisdom for a big decision or grace for just getting through today… you do not have to figure it all out alone. God is near. And He loves to respond to the hearts that humbly ask.

Reflection Question: Where have you been trying to handle things alone instead of simply asking God for His help and wisdom?

Prayer: Father, thank You for being so generous with Your wisdom and Your love. Forgive me for the times I try to manage life on my own. Help me come to You quickly, confidently, and with a trusting heart. I ask for Your guidance today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
