Mix It With Faith

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. - Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)

There’s nothing quite like a warm homemade biscuit fresh out of the oven. My grandmothers both made what we called ā€œcat head biscuitsā€ because they were so big and fluffy. No fancy tools were involved, just skillful hands, a little love, and a whole lot of butter once they came out of the oven.

One thing I learned early on watching them bake was that you could have all the right ingredients laid out on the counter, but if you didn’t add the binder, usually milk or buttermilk, those ingredients would never hold together. No matter how good each part was on its own, without that one essential element, there was no biscuit.

That is exactly how faith works. You can know all the Scriptures in the Bible, and you can hear the message of Jesus, but without faith it never really comes together. Faith is the substance, the binding force, that holds your hope together and turns belief into reality.

Hebrews 4:2 reminds us that the message was preached to both believers and unbelievers alike, but only those who mixed it with faith received the benefit. That means you can hear about the goodness of God all day long, but it is when you actually believe it and apply it that you start to see it work in your life.

The same faith that saves also heals, restores, protects, and provides. The Greek word forĀ savedĀ isĀ Sozo, and it speaks of a full and complete salvation. That promise is for you and me today through the finished work of Jesus.

So whatever you are believing for, do not forget to add faith to the mix. Stir it in with confidence and watch God bring something beautiful out of it.

Reflection Question: What is one area in your life right now where you need to stir in faith and trust God completely?

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your Word and every promise in it. Help me to believe and not doubt. I choose today to mix my hope with faith and trust that You will do what only You can do. Thank You for Jesus and all He has made possible for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
