Living in True Freedom

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. - John 8:36 (NLT)

Freedom is a word we hear a lot, but do we really experience it? We talk about it in big ways, like freedom in our country or freedom through Christ, but what does it really mean for us every day? In John 8:31-59, Jesus gives us some incredible insight into true freedom. He says, “If the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” It’s not just about being free from something, it's about being free to live fully in the love, grace, and truth of God!

Here’s the thing: Jesus was talking to people who, even though they were free citizens, were still stuck in their own lives, their own struggles, and their own misconceptions about God. They didn’t understand that the real freedom Jesus was offering wasn’t just freedom from oppression, but freedom from sin, fear, and lies. And guess what? That same freedom is for you and me today! We don’t have to stay trapped in what holds us back.

Psalm 112 gives us a beautiful picture of what this freedom looks like: “The righteous man is not afraid of bad news, his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.” That’s freedom! It’s not about avoiding hard times, but about knowing that, no matter what comes our way, God’s got our back. When we live with that kind of peace, nothing can shake us.

True freedom is living with the confidence that Jesus has already won the victory for us. He’s done the heavy lifting. So today, let's walk in the freedom He’s given us, freedom from fear, from the lies we believe, and from anything that holds us back from living the full life God has for us.

Reflection Question: How can you remind yourself today that you are free in Christ, no matter what life throws at you?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for setting me free! Help me to walk in that freedom today, trusting in Your truth and Your promises. I refuse to let fear or anything else hold me back. I know You’ve got this! In Jesus Name, Amen.
