Let Go

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” - Isaiah 43:18-19 NLT

Back in 2014 the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. was completely covered in scaffolding for major renovations. At that time it had been over 50 years since any significant work had been done, and authorities hoped that after millions of dollars and years of work, the Capitol would be better than new.

That scaffolding itself was impressive, 1.1 million pounds of equipment and enough pipes to build a sidewalk from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. But once the restoration was finished, the scaffolding had to come down. Imagine how absurd it would be for the building manager to insist, “Stop! Don’t take down the scaffolding! We still need it!” It would make no sense. The building was ready to shine on its own. The scaffolding had served its purpose, and now it had to go.

This can be a lot like our own lives. There may be times in our lives when the Lord brings people and places into our lives for just a season. God may just simply use these relationships or locals to help get us to the next place on our journey, and then He ask us to let them go. But I get it, that’s not so easy. However, just like the scaffolding, these seasons just may have served their purpose, and holding on too long could prevent us from fully embracing the new things God has for us.

Think about your life today. Are there things you’re holding on to that are keeping you from moving forward? Is there something, or someone, that God is asking you to let go of so He can do a new thing in your life? If so, receive His grace today to let it go.

Reflection Question: Is there something or someone you need to release in order to fully embrace the new season God has for you?

Prayer: Father, thank You for always being with me through every season of life. Help me to trust You enough to let go of the things that no longer serve my purpose and to embrace the new things You’re doing in my life. Guide me as I move forward with faith and expectancy, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
