Keep on Pounding

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

“But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. - 2 Timothy 3:14

If you’re a fan of the Carolina Panthers or even just somewhat familiar with them, then you have probably heard their rally cry, “Keep Pounding.” It is more than a chant. It is a statement of perseverance. At every home game, a guest is invited to pound the “Keep Pounding” drum, always followed by exuberant cheers from the Panther faithful.

But what makes this cry so meaningful is where it came from. Sam Mills, a former player turned coach, gave an unforgettable speech before a playoff game in 2004 while battling cancer. He told the team to never give up, to fight for one another, and no matter what, to “Keep Pounding.” His words carried weight because he lived them. Sam Mills fought his battle with courage to the very end.

In 2 Kings 13, the prophet Elisha gives a similar charge to King Jehoash. He tells him to strike the ground with arrows. The king hits the ground only three times. Elisha tells him that if he had kept pounding, he would have seen complete victory over his enemies. But because he stopped short, his victory would only be partial.

Paul echoes this heart to Timothy in his final letter. He encourages his young protégé to stay faithful, to keep preaching, and to never back down from the truth of the Gospel no matter what opposition comes. He is essentially saying, Timothy, keep pounding.

Maybe you are in a season where the fight feels long. Maybe you are praying, trusting, and standing but not seeing the results yet. Let me encourage you today, do not stop. With the help of the Holy Spirit, you can keep pounding. You are not alone, and your breakthrough might just be right around the corner.

Reflection Question: Where is God asking you to remain faithful and keep pressing forward even when results are not yet visible?

Prayer: Father, thank You for the strength to keep going when life gets hard. Help me to stay faithful to what You have spoken and to trust Your timing. Fill me with Your Spirit so I can keep pounding in faith and never give up. In Jesus name, Amen.
