It Is Finished

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

When Jesus had tasted it, he said, ‘It is finished!’ Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. - John 19:30 (NLT)

Imagine the weight of those words, “It is finished.” They weren’t just the final words of someone who had reached the end of their life; they were a declaration that everything Jesus came to do had been completed. Everything He promised, everything He was sent to accomplish, it was done.

Jesus’ death on the cross wasn’t some tragic accident. It was the fulfillment of a plan that began long before His time on Earth. Remember how the Israelites celebrated Passover? Every year, they sacrificed a lamb to remind them of God’s deliverance. But Jesus, as the ultimate Passover Lamb, came to put an end to all those yearly sacrifices. His death was the one that would be enough, forever. His blood poured out for us means we never have to fear judgment again. We’re free.

When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He wasn’t just talking about His life coming to an end. He was declaring that the price for our sins was paid in full. No more striving, no more wondering if we’ve done enough. We can finally rest, knowing that Jesus’ sacrifice was more than enough to make us right with God.

Reflection Question: How does it feel to know that Jesus’ work is already finished and you don't have to keep trying to earn God's approval?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for finishing the work that makes me whole. I’m so grateful that I don’t have to keep striving or wondering if I’ve done enough. Help me to live in the peace that comes from knowing Your love is all I need. In Jesus Name, Amen.
