In Light Of
Todayâs key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
No one lights a lamp and then hides it or puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house. Luke 11:33 (NLT)
Youâve probably heard the phrase âin light ofâŚâ used before. It usually means, âconsidering this new info.â Like, in light of the weather forecast, weâre canceling the picnic, or in light of recent events, things need to change.
Jesus uses âlightâ in a different, but powerful way in Luke 11. He says no one lights a lamp and hides it. Thatâd be pointless. Light is meant to be seen, to help, to guide. Then He goes on to say that our eyes are like lamps, what we focus on, let in, and believe will shape everything in us. If we take in truth, beauty, and the love of God, our whole lives will light up from the inside out.
But hereâs the part that hit me differently this time: when you connect this with what we know from 1 John, that God is light and God is love, you realize Jesus is inviting us to live every day âin light ofâ Godâs love.
Think about it. What if we actually lived like weâre deeply, endlessly loved by God? Not conditionally. Not on our best days only. But always. That kind of love brings clarity, peace, purpose, and yes, light.
And just like a lamp on a stand, that light isnât meant to stay hidden. Itâs meant to shine out into your family, your workplace, your community, reminding others theyâre loved too.
Reflection Question: What would change in your day if you lived âin light ofâ the truth that youâre fully loved by God?
Prayer: Father, thank You for being both light and love. Help me receive Your love in a way that changes how I see myself and the world around me. Let Your love shine through me today, even in small ways. In Jesus Name, Amen.
