Hugged Back

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Come close to God, and God will come close to you. - James 4:8 (NLT)

There are moments in life that speak louder than words ever could. One of those moments happened while walking through the mall with my kids after dinner. My daughter quietly slipped her arm around me. She didn’t say anything, but her gentle embrace said everything. In that instant I felt seen, appreciated, and deeply loved. It was simple, but unforgettable.

The next day while running errands, I caught myself quietly praising God as I moved through the aisles. Nothing loud or rehearsed, just genuine love bubbling up from a heart full of gratitude. No special music or prayer list. Just me and God and a quiet moment of worship in the middle of a normal day.

As I praised Him I felt something wash over me, peace, joy, a warmth that filled the space around me and within me. And I could not help but ask, “Lord, what am I feeling right now?” In that still and familiar whisper I heard the words I will never forget: “It is Me hugging you back.”

That is what our relationship with God is meant to be. Not cold or distant. Not a one-sided routine. But living and breathing. Close and tender. Real. We do not have to wonder if He notices us drawing near. His promise is clear: when we come close to Him, He comes close to us.

So if life feels heavy today, or even if everything is fine but your heart longs for something deeper, take a moment. Love on the Father. Whisper your praise. Pour out your heart. He is not only listening. He is responding. And He always hugs back.

Reflection Question: When was the last time you simply loved on God without needing anything in return, and how might you make space for that kind of closeness today?

Prayer: Father, thank You for being so near and so real. Thank You for meeting me in the quiet and for loving me in ways I can feel. Help me to draw close to You, not just when I need something, but because I love You. I want to know You more. I want to walk closely with You every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
