Helmets On
From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” - Ephesians 6:13 NLT
“Get your helmet on.” I can still hear that sharp command from my sergeant ringing in my ears. As a young Marine doing field training, I was’nt used to wearing my helmet. It felt bulky and awkward. But he was not just yelling to make a point. He knew that while a body wound might be survivable, a blow to the head could be fatal. The helmet was not optional. It was vital.
Paul must have known the same truth when he wrote about the armor of God. But instead of Kevlar, he told us to put on the “Helmet of Salvation.” This is more than just a piece of spiritual gear. It is a reminder that what covers your head, your mind, and your thoughts, matters more than you know.
The Greek word for helmet in this passage describes protection of the soul. And salvation here means more than just going to heaven one day. It carries the full weight of what Jesus died to give us right now. Salvation includes deliverance, healing, safety, peace of mind, and restoration. It is complete and all-encompassing.
When we wear the Helmet of Salvation, we are guarding our minds with the truth of what Jesus has already done. We are refusing to live in fear, guilt, or defeat. We are reminding ourselves daily that we are safe in Him. Just like a helmet in combat, it is not something you forget to put on. It is the difference between falling and standing firm.
Today, as you go about your life, remember to put on your helmet. Let your thoughts be shaped by the full goodness of your salvation. You are saved, healed, delivered, and deeply loved.
Reflection Question: What area of your thinking needs to come under the protection of your Helmet of Salvation today?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me a salvation that covers every part of my life. Help me to put on the helmet of Your truth and guard my mind from fear, lies, and confusion. Renew my thoughts with the hope and peace that only come from You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
