Heart to See

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Then Jesus placed his hands on the man’s eyes again, and his eyes were opened. His sight was completely restored, and he could see everything clearly. - Mark 8:25 (NLT)

In Mark 8, we see Jesus heal a blind man in a unique two-step process. At first, the man could only see blurry shapes. But after Jesus touched him again, his vision was fully restored. This wasn’t just a physical healing, it was also a powerful picture of how spiritual sight works.

Just as with physical vision, our ability to truly see what God is doing in our lives doesn’t always come instantly. Sometimes our hearts need healing from the blindness caused by pride, fear, or unbelief. Jesus warns His disciples to beware the “yeast of the Pharisees”, symbolic of pride that puffs up and hardens the heart, blocking spiritual perception.

The Pharisees, though highly religious, were spiritually blind. They demanded signs but missed the miracles happening right in front of them. In contrast, the blind man in this story came humbly, and because of that, he saw clearly. In Psalm 41, David writes of God’s mercy and healing: “The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.” God longs to restore our spiritual vision just as much as our physical health.

True sight comes not just through our physical eyes, but through a heart that is open and humble. It’s not enough to read God’s Word or hear His voice, we must have a heart that understands, a heart that sees. When we rid ourselves of pride, especially spiritual pride, we begin to see the goodness of God all around us.

Reflection Question: Is there any area in your life where pride might be blinding you from seeing what God is doing?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, open the eyes of my heart so I can see You clearly. Remove any pride or spiritual blindness that keeps me from recognizing Your hand at work in my life. Help me stay humble and teachable, so I may see Your goodness and follow You faithfully. In Jesus Name, Amen.
