He Came Back For You
Todayâs key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
Then Jesus told him, âYou believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.â - John 20:29 (NLT)
Thereâs something beautiful about how Jesus handles our doubts. He doesnât scold or shame us, He meets us right in the middle of them. Thatâs what He did with Thomas.
Weâve all heard the nickname âDoubting Thomas.â It tends to stick, doesnât it? One moment of hesitation, one honest expression of uncertainty, and now itâs a permanent label. But hereâs the thing, Jesus didnât leave Thomas in his doubt. He came back for him. Specifically. Personally. Lovingly.
Thomas had missed Jesusâ first appearance to the disciples after the resurrection. When the others told him, âWeâve seen the Lord!â Thomas replied, âUnless I see the nail wounds in his hands... I wonât believe.â That sounds familiar, doesnât it? Weâve all had moments where faith felt like a stretch, where hope felt out of reach and we just needed something, anything, to hold on to.
And what did Jesus do? He didnât write Thomas off. He didnât roll His eyes or withdraw His love. Instead, He returned, just for him. Jesus invited Thomas to see, to touch, to believe. That encounter changed everything. Thomas went from doubting to declaring, âMy Lord and my God!â
Grace met Thomas in the middle of his doubt. And grace still meets us in ours.
If Jesus was willing to come back for Thomas, Heâll show up for you too. You might not see Him physically, but His Spirit is always near, comforting, guiding, reminding you that your questions donât scare Him. In fact, theyâre often the very place He does His deepest work.
Reflection Question: Is there anywhere you have been struggling to believe, and how might Jesus be showing up for you in that place today?
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for not giving up on me when I wrestle with doubt. Thank You for meeting me right where I am, with compassion and patience. Help me to trust You more, even when I canât see clearly. Strengthen my faith by Your grace. In Jesus Name, Amen.
