Happy and Blessed

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

“Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, Lord. - Psalm 89:15 (NLT)

You’ve probably heard the phrase “Happy, Happy, Happy” from Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame. It’s become his trademark, and in his book, he explains that true happiness comes from having a relationship with Jesus.

David, the psalmist, understood this long before Phil ever said those words. In Psalm 89:15, David says that true happiness comes from hearing the joyful call to worship and walking in God’s light. But what exactly does that mean? It means that happiness isn’t about having perfect circumstances, getting everything we want, or avoiding struggles.

Instead, it comes from turning our focus toward God and seeking His presence.

In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world.” So, when we walk in His light, we’re choosing to focus on Him, not on our problems or circumstances. We worship, not because everything is perfect, but because God is worthy. Worship shifts our perspective.

It makes God bigger than anything else in our lives. And when we do that, it triggers joy and blessing.

I was inspired recently by a friend who faced some tough circumstances, both of his cars broke down right after he moved to a new area. Despite the challenges, he didn’t let frustration steal his joy. Instead, he continued to worship, trusting God’s presence and walking in His light. That’s what it looks like to live a truly blessed life!

Today, let’s choose to worship and walk in the light of God’s presence. When we do, we’ll experience that deep, lasting happiness that comes from being close to Him.

Reflection Question: Are you allowing worship to be your source of joy and strength, no matter what life throws at you?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for being the source of my joy and happiness. Help me to focus on Your presence and walk in Your light, no matter what challenges I face. I choose to worship You today and trust in Your goodness. In Jesus Name, Amen.
