Guaranteed First
Todayâs key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, âWhoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.â - Mark 9:35 (NLT)
In the fast-paced world we live in, the idea of competing for first place is all around us. Whether it's in our careers, relationships, or even sports like NASCAR, weâre conditioned to strive, push, and sometimes step on others to get ahead. It seems like the key to success is outworking, outsmarting, or outlasting everyone else. But in the race of life, Jesus offers a very different approach.
In Mark 9:35, Jesus turns the worldâs perspective upside down when He tells His disciples that to be first, they must choose to be last. To take the lowest position and serve others. This isnât the strategy we often hear in the world, but it is the strategy that guarantees victory in God's Kingdom.
Imagine a race where you donât need to fight for the top spot, but simply choose to place others ahead of yourself. Jesus promised that when we do this, His power works in us to bring us into âfirst placeâ, not by our striving, but through His grace. The world might reward those who climb the ladder, but God rewards those who humbly serve.
This doesnât mean we donât strive for excellence or that we become doormats for others. It means we choose to humble ourselves, putting God and others first, knowing that God will honor that. By seeking the good of others and serving selflessly, we enter into Godâs plan for success, where we are guaranteed to finish in victory.
Reflection Question: How can you humble yourself today to serve others and put God's Kingdom first?
Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift of Jesus, my perfect substitute. I receive His sacrifice, His covering, and His life. Help me live each day with gratitude, walking in the freedom and purpose Youâve given me. In Jesus name, amen.
