Grace over Guilt

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. - Luke 9:51 (NIV)

Have you ever had to face something tough head-on, knowing it wouldn’t be easy, but doing it anyway because it was the right thing to do? That’s exactly what Jesus did here. He knew what was coming in Jerusalem, pain, rejection, the cross. But He didn’t flinch. He walked straight into it. Why? Because of love. Because of grace.

Now, contrast that with the Old Testament reading from Deuteronomy, where there’s a lot of focus on laws, consequences, and justice. It can feel a little harsh. But when you look closer, it’s clear that sin has always been a big deal to God, not because He wants to punish us, but because He cares so deeply about us and about what’s right.

That’s why Jesus’ journey to the cross matters so much. He wasn’t ignoring justice, He was fulfilling it. He took on the consequences we deserved and offered us grace in return. That’s not just good news. That’s the best news.

And maybe today, you're carrying guilt from something in your past, or you feel like you can never quite measure up. Let this be a reminder: Jesus didn’t head to the cross because you were perfect, He went because you aren’t. And He loves you anyway.

Reflection Question: Is there an area in your life where you’re still trying to “earn” grace instead of just receiving it?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for walking straight into the hard stuff so I could experience real grace. Help me stop trying to prove myself and start trusting that what You did is enough. Teach me to live out of that grace every day. In Jesus Name, Amen.
