Grace In The Journey

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

So the people crossed the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month. Then they camped at Gilgal, just east of Jericho. It was there at Gilgal that Joshua piled up the twelve stones taken from the Jordan River. - Joshua 4:19–20 (NLT)

There’s something powerful about stopping to remember where you’ve been. That’s exactly what God asked the Israelites to do after they miraculously crossed the Jordan River. He told Joshua to gather twelve stones, one for each tribe, and set them up as a memorial.

Why? Because we forget. We forget how far we’ve come. We forget how faithful God has been. But grace makes space for remembering. It reminds us that we didn’t get here on our own.

The Israelites were finally stepping into the land God had promised them generations ago. This was a huge moment! But before they could charge forward into Jericho and all the battles ahead, God said, “Pause. Look around. Remember.”

And not just for their sake. Those stones were for future generations too. “In the future your children will ask, ‘What do these stones mean?’” (Joshua 4:21). It was a reminder of God’s grace, His power, and His presence.

We all need “stone moments”, times we can look back on and say, “That’s where God showed up. That’s when I knew He was with me.” Maybe for you it was a healing, a breakthrough, or just a moment of peace when you needed it most.

Don’t rush past those moments. Mark them. Tell someone. Let your story be a signpost of grace for someone else.

Reflection Question: Is there one moment in your life where you clearly saw God’s hand? How can you “mark” that moment and share it with others?

Prayer: God, thank You for every moment of grace You’ve shown me. Help me to remember how far You’ve brought me, and give me the courage to share my story so others can see Your faithfulness too. In Jesus Name, Amen.
