God Equips The Called
Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
Now the Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’ ‘A staff,’ he replied. The Lord said, ‘Throw it on the ground.’ Exodus 4:2 (NLT)
God often calls us to do things that feel impossible, and like Moses, we may feel unprepared. In Exodus 4, God meets Moses at the beginning of his mission and points to what he already has. The staff in Moses’ hand becomes a symbol of God’s power working through what seems ordinary. God does not start with our perfection or experience; He starts with what we are willing to place in His hands.
This story reminds us that God equips us for His purposes. Fear, doubt, or inadequacy do not disqualify us. When we surrender what we have and trust Him, God transforms it into exactly what is needed. Moses’ staff becomes a tool to lead, protect, and deliver, not because of Moses’ strength, but because of God’s power.
Today’s readings echo this same truth. In Matthew, Jesus teaches His disciples about humility, care, and reliance on God. Psalm 22 praises God for His steadfastness and deliverance even in the midst of suffering. All of these passages show that God provides exactly what is necessary when He calls us, and He never leaves us to rely on our own abilities alone.
If you feel unprepared for what God is asking of you today, remember that He equips the called. You do not need to have all the answers, the skills, or the courage on your own. He will provide as you step forward in obedience and trust.
Reflection Question: What is God asking you to place in His hands today so He can work through it?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for equipping me for the work You call me to do. Help me to trust Your power rather than my own and to step forward in faith, knowing You are with me every step of the way. Teach me to surrender what I have and allow You to use it for Your purposes. In Jesus name, Amen.
