From Curse to Blessing
Todayâs key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited and redeemed his people. - Luke 1:68 (NLT)
The story of Balaam is one of the most unexpected demonstrations of Godâs grace in the Old Testament. Balaam set out with the intention of cursing Godâs people, hired by a fearful and jealous king. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldnât utter a single word of curse, only blessing. Why? Because God had already decided to bless Israel. Even their rebellion, complaints, and lack of faith couldnât cancel Godâs covenant of love.
Godâs love had sealed something over Israel that human effort, manipulation, or spiritual attack could not undo. The words spoken over them were shaped by Godâs mercy, not their merit. As Balaam stood overlooking the valley filled with Israelites, every curse he intended to pronounce was turned into blessing. Book of Deuteronomy 23:5 tells us why: âThe LORD your God refused to listen to Balaam. He turned the intended curse into a blessing because the LORD your God loves you.â
What a foreshadowing of the gospel! In Christ, we see this principle fulfilled completely. We deserved judgment, but Jesus took the curse upon Himself. Now, those who are in Christ are forever under Godâs blessing. Our lives may not be perfect, and we may still fall short, but God's love speaks louder than our failures.
You may feel unworthy. You may feel like youâve blown it. But know this: in Jesus, the curse has already been broken. The blessing stands, not because of what youâve done, but because of what Christ has done for you.
Reflection Question: Is there any area in your life you need to stop striving for Godâs favor and start resting in His blessing?
Prayer: Father, thank You for the undeserved blessing we have in Jesus. When curses should have come, You declared favor. Teach us to trust in Your mercy more than our performance. Let our lives be a reflection of the grace that turns every curse into a testimony of blessing. In Jesus Name, Amen.
