Then Jesus said to Simon, ‘Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.’ So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. - Luke 5:10-11 (NIV)

In Luke 5:1–11, we encounter the calling of Simon Peter and his companions. After a fruitless night of fishing, Jesus instructs them to cast their nets once more. The miraculous catch that follows leads Peter to recognize Jesus' divine authority. Jesus then calls them to a new purpose: “fishers of men.”

This passage illustrates the transformative power of Jesus' call. Peter and his partners left their livelihoods to follow Him, demonstrating a profound act of faith and obedience. Their response challenges us to consider our own willingness to follow Jesus, even when it requires significant change or sacrifice.

In our daily lives, Jesus continues to call us to follow Him, to step out of our comfort zones, and to trust in His guidance. The question we must ask ourselves is: Are we ready to leave behind our nets and follow Him wholeheartedly?

Reflection Question: Is there any "nets" in your life that Jesus is calling you to leave behind in order to follow Him more closely?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for calling us to follow You. Help us to recognize Your voice and to trust in Your plan for our lives. Give us the courage to leave behind anything that hinders our relationship with You and to step forward in faith. May our lives reflect Your love and grace to those around us. In Jesus Name, Amen
