Double Saved
From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
“Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.” - 1 Timothy 4:16 (NLT)
Have you ever really listened to the safety instructions on a flight? Most people are halfway tuned out, scrolling through their phone or looking out the window. But one line always stands out to me. The flight attendant says, in the event of an emergency, put your own oxygen mask on first before helping the person next to you. It makes perfect sense. If you are struggling to breathe, you are not going to be much help to anyone else.
Paul is giving Timothy that same kind of wisdom in this verse. He is saying, watch how you live and what you teach. Stay grounded in the truth of the Gospel. Why? Because when you do, you are saving both yourself and those who are listening to you.
The word used here for saved is the Greek word Sozo. It means more than just getting to heaven. It means healed, delivered, protected, made whole. This is not just about survival. This is about living the full and abundant life Jesus promised.
Paul is reminding Timothy not to drift from grace into works. Not to mix law with love. When we stay rooted in grace, we walk in freedom and invite others into that freedom too. We cannot pour out what we have not received. And we cannot help others live free if we are still bound by performance and pressure.
So today, put on your mask. Breathe in grace. Let God restore and steady you. Then look around. Someone near you needs that same breath of life.
Reflection Question: Is there any area where you have slipped from grace into striving, either in how you live, or in how you help others?
Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift of grace that saves, heals, and restores. Help me to stay rooted in the truth of the Gospel. Fill me first so that I can overflow into the lives of others. Let my life and my words always lead people back to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
