Double Anchored

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. - Hebrews 6:18 (NLT)

There is something about being out on the water that brings a mix of peace and challenge. I remember heading out for a kayak fishing trip on a perfect sunny day with high hopes. I had my gear ready, the water looked calm, and I thought I had found the perfect spot. But there was one problem. My anchor would not hold. No matter how many times I tried to set it, I kept drifting. The current was stronger than it seemed, and it wore me out just trying to stay in place. By the end of the trip, I was tired, frustrated, and empty handed.

It reminded me of how life feels sometimes. We try to stay steady. We work hard to hold our position. But the currents of uncertainty, worry, or change keep pushing us off course. That is why Hebrews 6:18 is such a powerful promise. It tells us that we are not just anchored by one thing but two, God’s promise and His oath. Both are unchangeable because He cannot lie. That means when we turn to Him as our refuge, we are held steady by something stronger than any current life can throw at us.

This is not just about surviving the storms. This is about having real, unshakable hope. Because Jesus is our High Priest, always interceding for us, we are given full access to God’s presence. And in His presence, there is peace. There is rest. There is security.

So if you feel like you are drifting today, pause and remember this: You are double anchored in truth that will not fail. You are held in the hands of a God who cannot and will not change His mind about you.

Reflection Question: Where in your life do you need to trust more deeply in the unchanging promise and presence of God?

Prayer: Father, thank You for anchoring us with Your unbreakable promise and oath. When life pulls us in every direction, help us remember that we are held steady in You. Fill our hearts with confidence and hope as we trust in Your faithful love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
