Disappointment Detour

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. - Psalm 100:5

We’ve all had those moments, right? Where things just didn’t turn out the way we expected, and it feels like we’ve gone off course. That’s exactly what happened to two of Jesus’ followers in Luke 24. After everything they had hoped for didn’t happen the way they thought it would, they were feeling disappointed and decided to head back to their hometown of Emmaus.

Here’s the beautiful part, Jesus met them on their journey. They didn’t even recognize Him at first, but He came alongside them and began explaining how everything they had experienced was a part of God’s bigger plan. As they walked and talked, their hearts started to burn with excitement. It wasn’t until they sat down for dinner, and Jesus broke the bread, that they suddenly realized who He was! In that instant, He disappeared, and they were left in awe of what had just happened.

The amazing thing is that after this encounter, they didn’t stay stuck in their disappointment. They were so filled with hope and joy that they immediately ran back to Jerusalem, seven miles, no less, to share the good news of what they had experienced.

Disappointment can sometimes feel like it’s leading us off track, but even then, Jesus is right there with us, walking alongside us and reminding us of His love and faithfulness. No matter what we’re going through, He’s there to fill us with hope and help us get back on the right path.

Reflection Question: Have you ever felt like you’ve gone off track because of disappointment? If so, how can you invite Jesus into your journey and let Him guide you?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for always being with me, even when things don’t go as planned. Help me to recognize Your presence in my life and fill me with hope as I move forward. In Jesus Name, Amen.
