Deliberately
Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
But Jesus said, ‘Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.’ - Luke 8:46 (NLT)
Have you ever experienced a moment where you felt the need to deliberately reach for something? Maybe it was a goal you set, a decision you made, or even a desperate prayer you offered. In today’s scripture, we see a woman who does just that, reaches out deliberately to Jesus in faith.
On His way to heal Jairus’ daughter, Jesus was surrounded by a crowd, all pressing in on Him. Yet, one woman touched Him in such a way that it stopped Jesus in His tracks. He recognized the difference immediately: this touch wasn’t accidental. It was intentional. The Greek word for “deliberately” here means “to cling to,” “to fasten one’s self to.”
What made her touch so powerful? She was reaching for more than just a physical healing; she was grabbing hold of the Word, Jesus Himself. In John 1:1, we learn that “the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” And Psalm 107:20 reminds us that “He sent His Word and healed them.” This woman didn’t just hope for a healing; she clung to the promise of healing through the Word of God.
I remember watching my mom go through cancer treatment years ago. She was weak, tired, and at times discouraged. But what stood out to me was her deliberate faith in God’s Word. She believed she was going to be healed, and she clung to those promises through every trial. And in the end, her healing came.
Today, is there something in your life you need God to do? Whatever it is, reach out and deliberately grab hold of God’s promises. Don’t let go.
Reflection Question: What promise from God do you need to cling to today, and how can you hold onto it with deliberate faith?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your Word, which is living and active. Help me to cling to Your promises, to trust in Your power, and to hold on to the hope You provide. No matter what I face today, I choose to reach out deliberately to You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
