Decorate Your Heart

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey, riding on a donkey’s colt. - Zechariah 9:9

Oh, the beauty of Christmas. It’s hard to think about taking down those decorations. The lights, the stillness, the sense of wonder. But more than anything, the Christmas season reminds us that our King came close. He did not send help from a distance. He stepped right into our world.

Zechariah’s prophecy gives us a picture of Jesus long before that first Christmas night. A King who would come not with force or flash, but with humility. Riding on a donkey. Full of righteousness and victory, yes, but also gentle and approachable. This is not just a story from the past. It is the heart of the gospel. And it is the kind of King we celebrate today.

Psalm 145 reminds us that the Lord is gracious and full of compassion. Slow to get angry. Rich in love. That sounds a lot like the child born in a manger. The One who would grow up to heal, restore, forgive, and save. He is still that King. Still that gracious and compassionate Savior. And He still comes near.

So today, in the middle of whatever the day after Christmas looks like, whether it is full of joy or a little bit tender, know this. Your King has come. Not just for the world, but for you. He came low so He could lift you up. He came close so you could draw near. He came once and He is coming again. But right now, He is with you.

Let that truth decorate your heart and mind, and keep those lights on all year long.

Reflection Question: What would change in your heart this Christmas if you truly believed your King came just for you?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for coming close. Thank You for being a King who is humble and kind, strong and full of love. Help me to welcome You not just in this season but in every part of my life. I receive the peace and joy You bring. Keep those lights of hope shining in my heart all year long. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
