Consult
Todayâs key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
So Joshua took control of the entire land, just as the Lord had instructed Moses. He gave it to the people of Israel as their special possession, dividing the land among the tribes. So the land finally had rest from war. - Joshua 11:23 (NLT)
Joshuaâs journey as a leader was filled with new challenges, and he quickly learned that he couldnât rely on his own wisdom or experiences to navigate them. In one instance, when he faced the kings of Canaan, Joshua made a mistake that could have cost Israel dearly. The Gibeonites, a neighboring people, deceived him into thinking they were from a far-off land, using worn-out clothes and moldy bread to create the illusion. Joshua, without consulting the Lord, made a peace treaty with them.
Joshua 9:14 reveals the mistake: âSo the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult the Lord.â If he had paused to consult God, Joshua would have seen the deception clearly. But even though he made a mistake, God didnât leave him in his error. He taught Joshua to rely fully on His guidance, which led to victory after victory and, eventually, peace for the land.
I can totally relate to Joshua. How many times have I rushed into a decision, relying on my own judgment or the circumstances around me, only to later regret not stopping to ask God for His direction? But hereâs the good news: God doesnât leave us in our mistakes. He is always ready to guide us, fix whatâs broken, and lead us toward victory.
Today, remember that God is always available for consultation. His wisdom is there for the asking, whether itâs a small decision or a big one. Thereâs no need to face lifeâs challenges on your own.
Reflection Question: Is there an area in your life where youâve been trying to figure things out on your own? If so, how can you invite Godâs guidance into that situation today?
Prayer: Lord, Thank You for Your guidance and wisdom. Forgive me for rushing ahead without consulting You. Help me slow down, seek Your direction, and trust Your perfect plan. I invite You into my decisions today. In Jesus Name, Amen.
