Confident in the Waiting
“We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield.” — Psalm 33:20 (NLT)
Hope can feel risky when life feels uncertain. It is much easier to rely on what we can control, what we can see, or what we can understand. But the psalmist reminds us that real hope is not found in our circumstances. It is found in the Lord.
Hope is not just wishful thinking. It is a confident expectation rooted in the character of God. He is our help, faithful to come through. He is our shield, strong enough to protect us. That means we can rest, even when we do not have all the answers. We can move forward, even when the path ahead is unclear.
Sometimes, hope is quiet. It looks like choosing to trust when you do not see change yet. It looks like praying again when it feels easier to give up. It looks like worshiping in the middle of waiting. And in those moments, God meets us. He strengthens us. He reminds us that He has not forgotten us.
Psalm 33 goes on to say that the Lord watches over those who fear Him, and He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in famine. In other words, He sees. He knows. He provides.
Today, no matter what you are facing, you can place your hope in the Lord. Not because you know exactly how things will turn out, but because you know who He is. He is your help. He is your shield. And He will not let you down.
Reflection Question: Where in your life do you need to let go of control and choose to hope in God again? Maybe it’s your job. A strained relationship. A medical report. A dream that’s been delayed. You don’t have to figure it all out. You just have to trust the One who holds it all together.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are my help and my shield. When I feel weary or uncertain, help me to place my hope in You. Teach me to trust You more deeply and to rest in the truth that You are with me and for me. I choose to hope again today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
